If at any time you begin feeling too mellow and laid-back, you may be experiencing toxic levels of the mid-1970s. As further preparation, familiarize yourself with the controls, especially the emergency ejection seat----click the NorthsideFootball.com banner to return to the current year. We hope you enjoy the journey.

1974 |
Gerald R. Ford (a former football player) is President following the unprecedented resignation of Richard Nixon. The Arab oil embargo has caused gasoline prices to spiral upward. News anchors blab endlessly about "recession" and "inflation" but these terms have nothing to do with hairlines and waistlines. The minimum wage is $2.00 an hour. The United States withdraws the last of its forces from Vietnam. Fatigue shirts are no longer in fashion. Love beads go out of style. Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie, and others join ZZ-Top to mark the emergence of Southern Rock as a significant musical genre. Coach Nix and the Eagles continue groundwork to eventually dominate football in region 2-AAA and achieve the best record in NHS history. AAA is the top level of Georgia high school football. |
1975 |
Bell-bottom jeans (faded), denim jackets, earth shoes and rock-band T-shirts lead the list of tacky fashions popular with youth. Long hair is the norm for young men. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels and the Atlanta Rhythm Section all play at a concert in the Macon Coliseum. The Eagles ARRIVE in 75! This year's NHS football team is a model for dominant teams of the future to emulate. This team's achievements are reached again only years later. |
1976 |
America celebrates its bicentennial year. Jimmy Carter is elected President in November. This year marks the beginning of the end for the best music ever recorded. So far, there's been no proven correlation between Carter's election and the demise of music or with the Eagles' less than optimal performance at the end of the 76 season. Boston (the band) releases its debut album; each succeeding album will be less appealing. Music is most commonly reproduced on vinyl discs called "albums." "LP" is the acronym for Long-Play album, usually played at 33 rpm on a revolving platform called a "turntable." The cassette tape begins replacing the 8-track tape for portable music and car decks. CD is the acronym for "Certificate of Deposit" which is an investment instrument guaranteed by banks. Molly Hatchet still plays in night clubs in Warner Robins and Stillwater, the boys from Warner Robins, release an album and a hit song. That other team across town has a pretty fair football team this year...co-national champs, or some such. |
1977 |
Elvis Presley died. Two key members of Lynyrd Skynyrd die in a fiery plane crash. The disco era begins with the release of the movie, Saturday Night Fever. Rock and Roll fans the world over groan in unison. All these disasters, experts agree, are likely the result of that other school having a such a good football team. But eventually, all is made right in the universe. See 1978 and the 1980s and 1990s! |
